Elbow dysplasia is a complex developmental disease caused by a defect in cartilage maturation.  This leads to a number of different but related clinical syndromes seen in dogs ranging from 5 months to 10 years of age.  Although any dog may be affected by elbow dysplasia, it is particularly a disease of large breed dogs with the retrievers, German Shepherds and Mastiffs particularly predisposed.  A variety of different treatment options are available depending on the form and severity of the disease.  The handout below provides more detailed information on this disease.
